Alex Plowright

Alex Plowright
Alex is a classically-trained pianist and composer from Oxford, UK. He started learning the piano aged 7, and began composing for a local theatre company aged 13. He became the musical director of the ‘Rep Theatre Company’ for 4 years, writing incidental music for many plays, some of which were performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
After gaining ABRSM Grade VIII distinction on piano and an A-level in music, he went on to read music at Brasenose College, Oxford University, where he specialized in music history, orchestration and composition techniques. After completing the course, he began producing music for short films and TV, most notably for a documentary series on BBC World.
Alex uses Logic 8, with the Vienna Symphonic Library ‘special edition’ sample library. He also co-writes and produces songs in an indie band and can often be seen playing keyboards with them in Oxford and London. He is currently working for an American advertising agency.
Alex’s music is characteristically uplifting and reflective, and he writes in a wide variety of styles. His main influences are film composers such as John Barry, Michael Nyman and Yann Tiersen, but his music often reflects his tastes in popular music as well.
